You may have noticed a new twitter id surfaced several days ago named, @ThePieTruckDC. The Dangerously Delicious Pies owners had this to say:
We are in the process of tricking out our brand new truck and hope it will be road ready May 1. We plan on seriously going above and beyond with the new truck. Our Pie truck will be a Pie Party everyday for those folks who work hard in an office day in and day out. It wont just be a Food Truck anymore. It’s gonna be an experience! And we have a lot of fun ideas a brewin so stay tuned! We will also be involved with many charitable events with this truck to help serve the city we love! We will be offering the Pie Truck to be hired for Private events and catering as well! We are really excited about it and I just know our fans will have a blast! The Pie Truck can be followed on Facebook at “The Pie Truck” and on Twitter @ThePieTruckDC
Power Shift is a national youth climate summit that started in 2007 and occurs every 2 years. The 2011 summit will be held at the Washington DC Convention Center and 7 DC food trucks will be on site to serve the hungry environmentalists. The attendees will surely be evaluating the containers that the 7 trucks use. As far as I know, they all use environmentally friendly containers.
More info on the event can be found on the Power Shift 2011 website or in the Washington Post article.
BTW – BBQ Bus will be in attendance!
I just spoke with the owners of the Red Hook Lobster Pound truck and discovered that their second planned truck is about to become a reality! Expected to appear in about a month’s time, the second lobster food truck might be seamlessly swapped in as the regular running lobster truck while the first generation truck is retooled. Or, depending on how quickly the 2nd lobster serving team is trained, the 2nd truck could be launched as a full-blown second truck.
The only thing that is more certain is that the Red Hook Lobster Pound truck will be giving away 100 free whoopie pies to the first 100 customers each day this week. 🙂 Pies provided by a new brand, named Whoopsies.
The DC food truck scene continues to expand throughout Maryland and Virginia. We were just notified by the owner of Go Fish! that their truck will be rolling out next month (May)! Currently, going through the permitting process, the Go Fish! strategy is to serve seafood lunches during the day and make seafood market deliveries in the evening. Delivery orders can be placed online via their website next month.
Menu items include a Jumbo Lump Crab Cake Sandwich, Salmon Burger, Fish Tacos, Grilled Salmon Caesar Salad, Lobster & Shrimp Rolls and more.
Here are links to their website and twitter account @gofishdc.
I just received word that a Hawaiian food truck will be coming to DC! Hula Girl Truck will be bringing the Aloha spirit to the metro DC area in a tricked out woody truck. Planned menu items include grilled Hawaiian teriyaki, plate lunches, salads and sandwiches. Their soon-to-be-launched website is located here. Their twitter username is @hulagirltruck.
I’ll post more info as I receive it!
Everyone has been asking me, “what’s the deal with Fry Captain, I haven’t seen them in a while?” Well, I can confirm that Fry Captain IS planning on returning to the DC food truck scene soon. Stay tuned! 🙂
The owner of Dylan’s Downhome Food Truck got in touch with me to let us know about their new food truck that is launching in the next two weeks. This truck will be operating on Saturdays-only (to start) and far from downtown DC, in Stafford Virginia. But, it will be in good company with Beach Fries (which operates in Fredericksburg). The cuisine is described as: Real. Southern. Food.
Plans are already in motion to get permitted in Arlington and Fairfax county, so we will all be able to sample their cuisine closer to DC in a few months time. In case you can’t wait until the local permits come through, they do cater as well.
