For this week’s Farragut Friday, we have a new visitor: Tasty Kabob! Tasty Kabob started out as two stationary carts located in Arlington, VA. But, they recently launched a food truck and today is the first day we’re seeing it serve in DC. Here is a picture of their menu, courtesy of @rnscarduzio.

District Taco announced that they won one of the coveted 10 street vending spots outside the Nationals ballpark! They will be serving at the opener tonight and I’m hoping that the rain doesn’t interfere with those plans. Regardless of today’s weather, District Taco plans to serve at their designated spot during every home game of the season.  They have the most prime spot possible right in front of the main entrance!

UPDATE: DT will not be serving tonight, not due to weather, but due to additional red tape / inspection requirements.  I’ll keep you updated!

Chinatown Coffee, located at 5th & H St NW, is continuing its food truck happy hour series, Food Truck Thursdays. The shop hosted successful happy hour events with Red Hook Lobster Pound and Eat Wonky last fall.

Starting March 31, Chinatown Coffee Co. will host a joint happy hour each Thursday evening from 6:30 – 8:30pm with a different DC food truck. It is the perfect time to bring back this popular partnership between the brick and mortar shop and the food truck community.

The week’s featured food truck will be parked outside the shop, on the corner of 5th and H Street, NW. Customers will be able to purchase food outside and bring it into the shop to eat and enjoy some beverages. Chinatown Coffee Co. will offer $3 beer specials, in addition to a selection of wine and absinthe.

Mike Lenard, owner of Takorean and Assistant Director of the DC Food Truck Association (DCFTA), responded to yesterday’s police action against DC food trucks.  Read the full response on the Prince of Petworth site.

During today’s lunch hour, three food trucks encountered disruptions by police (MPD and Park). Trucks affected were Takorean (as reported by Prince of Petworth), Pi On Wheels (District of Pi’s truck) and Sauca. All trucks were eventually cleared of any infraction and allowed to operate again.

Do we even need to speculate anymore that certain restaurants and BIDs are calling the police in an attempt to harass DC’s food trucks?

Should DC food truck fans start auditing brick and mortar restaurants for health code violations? 🙂
