Food Truck For Sale For 25K!

My friend sent this over for fun.  It’s a food truck for sale for the low price of $25,000! I’m posting this because I know everyone thinks it when they visit this site: “Maybe I can start up a food truck!”  Well, for 25K, that sounds pretty doable.. except for needing a menu, food and staff.  But, if you just want to make a grilled cheese sandwich truck, maybe it’s not so far out of reach?

As a disclaimer, I do not know the person selling this truck and this is not meant to be an ad. 😉

Washington Post Reviews And Rates Food Trucks

Let me first say that I don’t agree with the ratings. 🙂  But, hey, the article features one guy’s opinion and there’s some good info in the review of 13 DC food trucks.  Here’s a link to the ratings.

Golden Triangle BID Gets Dirty, Harasses Food Truck Customers

The battle between the Golden Triangle BID and food trucks just took a turn for the worse.  While El Floridano was serving customers in Farragut Square last Friday, the BID turned the sprinklers on the customers!  TBD has some more details.

DC Curbside Cookoff Winners Announced

The 2010 DC Curbside Cookoff winners were officially announced by DCRA over the weekend! The cookoff voting results included not just DC food trucks that are tracked by Food Truck Fiesta, but also included carts (like Pedro and Vinny’s Burrito Cart) and one food truck that hasn’t even started serving the public yet (DCEmpanadas). Just one active DC food truck didn’t make the cut (Sidewalk Sweets).

Food Trucks Are No Strangers To Police Complaints. Current Victim? Lobster Truck

I caught this amusing post from DC Street Vendor last Friday. It explains how an angry Capitol Hill resident called the cops to complain about the long line of hungry Washingtonians emanating from the Red Hook Lobster Pound Truck. Fortunately, the police just visited LobsterTruckDC a couple of times to check that everything was under control, which it was.

Just a couple of months earlier, the Firehook Bakery was calling the cops on the Sauca food truck.

Just another day in the DC food truck world! 🙂

Last Day To Vote For Your Favorite Food Truck

Head over to DCRA’s voting page for the 2010 Curbside Cookoff! Only the top 20 voted food trucks will be invited to the cook off. As of a couple of days ago, the top 10 voted trucks are as follows:

1. Curbside Cupcakes
2. Fojol Brothers
3. FoodChain
4. TaKorean
5. Pleasant Pops
6. Red Hook Lobster Truck
7. DC Slices
8. El Floridano
9. Eat Sauca
10. BBQ Bandidos

You know who’s missing, right? And, they may be in the top 20, but why take a chance?  Trucks that need votes are Eat Wonky, Fry Captain, District Taco, Rebel Heroes, Sidewalk Sweets, Sweetflow Mobile, and Yellow Vendor.

So, please vote!

New Latin-inspired Food Truck Coming To DC: Saborastreet

Some more breaking news for you!   Saborastreet, a Latin-inspired food truck is planning on launching in DC this fall!  This news is so new that we can only point you to their twitter handle and web site domain name. I love watching trucks develop from concept to reality and will be tracking Saborastreet for all of the loyal Food Truck Fiesta readers!

El Floridano Visits Van Ness This Afternoon (Monday)

I’m starting to observe more food trucks exploring the upper NW area of Washington DC. Today, El Floridano is at Van Ness for a late lunch! Here is the tweet:

Late lunch anyone?

@BruinGirl2001 I’m on Conn. between V. Ness & Veazey.

New Food Truck Coming To DC: Bada Bing (Cheesesteaks & Spiedies!)

Breaking news! @badabingdc (official website & on Facebook too) will be bringing the best of NYC cheesesteaks and spiedie sandwiches to DC! It looks like they are still in the business formation stage of things, so we’ll have to wait a couple of months before they hit the streets. It also looks like they are based out of Arlington, so maybe they’ll get their start in Virginia first and then move into DC? I’m working on confirming everything soon!

Update: A few questions are answered on their facebook page.  Bada Bing is getting permitted in Arlington and they estimated a launch date of the 2nd or 3rd week in September.  But, that estimate was given over 2 weeks ago.

Tenleytown Getting Some Food Truck Love Today (Thursday)

Farragut, Franklin, McPherson, L’Enfant, Union Station. Those are just a few of the regular places in DC that food trucks visit for lunch. But, of course, there are many other sections of this city that have the food truck craving being left unfulfilled. I’ve received countless emails from fans asking, “How do I get a food truck to visit my section of town for lunch?” Tenleytown was definitely one of those locations, and today, Red Hook Lobster Pound (LobstertruckDC) is trying something new by actually visiting one of those requested locations! There is no doubt that a lot of food truck operators are silently watching to see how lucrative an outlier spot like Tenleytown will be. And I definitely applaud LobstertruckDC for testing that market!

One has to wonder why more non-downtown locations & markets are not tested by food trucks. By definition, a food truck can visit a location and if there is no business, they can start the engine and visit a known high demand location. But, maybe food trucks don’t feel compelled to explore the unknown because business is still booming at the known downtown locations.

Here is a copy of LobstertruckDC’s tweet announcing the visit to Tenleytown:

Good Morning Lobstertonians! We are heading to Tenleytown today! Spot suggestions welcome! Holder = a free Shrimp Roll or $8 Lobster Roll.
