DCRA, in partnership with the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities and Brightest Young Things, is hosting DC’s first annual Curbside Cookoff on October 7 – 8 at the Old Convention Center parking lot (11th & H St NW). There are 20 slots available for local food trucks (and food carts & hot dog stands) to be a part of the festival. So, how are they picking which 20 vendors get in? Voting, of course!

The polls opened today at 9am and they close in just 1 week, so head over to DCRA’s voting page to cast your ballot for your favorite food truck!

The ingenuity of the food truck world does not stop at offering gourmet food at great prices from a compact kitchen on wheels. The creative ways that food trucks promote themselves is almost always noteworthy.

It’s evident that every DC food truck strives to become licensed in both DC and Arlington, Virginia.  And it’s for good reason, because that’s where the business is!  Some trucks get their start in Arlington and then branch out to DC while others, including Sweetbites Mobile Cafe, get their start in DC and branch out into Arlington.

Today is the first day that Sweetbites Mobile Cafe will be serving in Arlington!  They’ll be in Ballston all day and they are fully stocked.  Here is a tweet from sweetbitestruck:

Eat Wonky has been driving around the city for the past couple of weeks in what it dubbed a soft opening.  This amounted to showing up [mostly] unannounced at different locations and serving the masses.  Well, the soft opening period has ended and Eat Wonky has announced its official opening day will be Sept 3rd!  Here is the tweet:

District Taco just tweeted that they will be vending at the Columbia Heights Day festival in DC this weekend!  While still waiting for DC to approve their vending license, District Taco is able to vend in the District during events like Columbia Heights Day.  Look for them to start serving breakfast at 9am @ 13th & Kenyon St NW.  Here is a copy of the tweet:

Missing El Floridano this week? Don’t worry, they are just taking some time out to install solar panels on top of their truck! Here is a pic on their FB page of one of the panels!

According to a comment on the FB page, the panels will power the kitchen while the truck is parked so that they don’t have to idle the truck’s engine while serving food.  Sounds excellent!

Everyone needs a break – even food truck operators!  Sauca announced yesterday that they will be on vacation this week, but they will be back on the streets on Aug 30th!  Here is the tweet:
