Fredericksburg Getting Their Own Food Truck: Beach Fries Food Truck

I was contacted by another food truck operator about his upcoming truck, named Beach Fries food truck! The menu sounds very yummy, but all of you downtown DC food truck fans will be disappointed to learn that his truck will be serving the area of Fredericksburg, VA with his sights set on Dahlgren NSWC and the GEICO HQ in Stafford, VA. The truck is being painted Tennessee Orange, so it will be easy to spot. Their twitter handle is gotbeachfries and a website is coming soon.

You have to check out this bit about the planned menu:

– Fresh Cut Idaho Potato French Fries prepared in a “Beachy” way
– Homemade Crabcake Sandwich
– Big Kahuna Chicken Sandwich (prepared 2 ways)
– Bologna Burgers
– Deep Fried Corn on the Cob
– Fresh brewed sweet tea and lemonade and bottled water

The truck is planning on launching on Dec 31st!

New DC Food Truck: The Big Cheese

I just got word directly from the operator of The Big Cheese food truck that the truck is almost ready to start serving! A few tweets ago, they mentioned something about a Nov 15th opening. Today, they are going to have the Arlington health inspection which is usually the last step before being able to serve customers.  The Big Cheese is going to be meeting with the DCRA inspector to get the DC permit process going this week.

So, what will The Big Cheese be serving? One hint is that they will be getting their cheese from the Cowgirl Creamery.  Maybe it’ll be grilled cheese sandwiches?  With Mt. Tam slightly melted between two slices of bread? Yumm  🙂

Regardless of how they serve the cheese, using great ingredients is the mantra of the DC Food Truck 2.0. And, The Big Cheese is sure to be a hit.

Update:  Here are some more details of The Big Cheese’s menu!!

– core menu of 6 grilled cheese sandwiches plus 2 weekly specials
– tomato soup + seasonal soup
– rustic bread from Lyon Bakery, tomato rosemary, sun dried tomato, multigrain

I’ll leave the rest up to your imagination! 🙂

Smithsonian Hosts Food Trucks on Saturday

From The Smithsonian Press release:

On Saturday, Nov. 6 from noon to 1:30 an appetizing array of local food trucks—Curbside Cupcake, Sweetflow Mobile, TaKorean, Red Hook Lobster and Fry Captain—arrives at the Constitution Avenue entrance of the National Museum of American History with a wide range of flavorful fare available for purchase (prices vary).

This “food truck muster” is part of the Smithsonian’s Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation “Food for Thought” symposium.

Fojol Bros Launch 2nd Truck: Benethiopia

I was just talking about how many DC food trucks have launched 2nd trucks, and wouldn’t you guess it, another dc food truck operation is launching a second truck!  The original Fojol Bros. of Merlindia (indian cuisine) has created a new truck called Fojol Bros. of Benethiopia (ethiopian cuisine).  This is a little different from other dual dc food truck operations because instead of serving the exact same food as the original truck, Fojol Bros are serving a different cuisine from their new truck.

The Going Out Gurus have a nice writeup about the new truck.

iPhone App – Food Truck Fiesta!!

I’m so happy to announce that the official Food Truck Fiesta iPhone app (iTunes link) has been released! This app is quick. When you open the app, it puts you right into a google map and the food truck icons instantly drop into their real-time location.  Tap on any food truck icon and you’ll see the truck name as well as a blue arrow that leads to the real-time twitter page for that truck.  Get the app here or just search for food truck fiesta on the iTunes store!

The app is selling for $0.99, but I am going to host many giveaways for a code to redeem the app for free!  So, keep an eye out for that.  I’m planning on giving away at least 1 app per week.

This is version 1.0 of the app and I’m looking for feedback on how to improve it in future versions, so don’t be shy! 🙂

Credits:  Thank you so much to the folks at APPease Mobile for developing the app for me.  APPease is a Washington DC-based corporation that specializes in mobile marketing and, of course, are available for hire.

Incredible Food Truck Demand Spurs Clones

Sauca has been serving from its fleet of two trucks ever since Food Truck Fiesta began tracking DC food trucks. But, last week, I saw a second DC food truck, Curbside Cupcakes, clone itself and start serving from two trucks. And, now I hear that Red Hook Lobster Pound is working on a second truck (expected in 2011)!

This just proves that the DC food truck industry cannot meet the current demand of its customers.

DC Food Trucks Serving During Tomorrow’s Rally to Restore Sanity

Just a heads-up that a few DC food trucks have announced that they will be serving visitors at tomorrow’s Rally to Restore Sanity on the National Mall. Since DC food trucks aren’t allowed to park and serve on federal property, look to them on the outskirts of the rally grounds. For example, the Red Hook Lobster Pound truck will be parked around 7th & Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC.

Bada Bing To Start Serving!

A quick update on Bada Bing‘s facebook page reveals that they just passed Arlington County Health Inspection and might start serving today in Ballston!  It would appear that Bada Bing will focus in on Arlington, VA as its service area.  They’ll be serving Spiedies and Cheesesteaks. Here’s a copy of their facebook status:

Good news. We passed the Arlington County Health Inspection w/ flying colors. If all goes well tomorrow at the courthouse….Ballston…. Thursday….here we come!

Eatwonky Serving At High Heel Drag Race Tonight (Tuesday)
