Friday’s Truckeroo Food Trucks Raising Funds for Families of Navy Yard ShootingWASHINGTON, DC – Food trucks at Friday’s Truckeroo festival will be raising funds for victims’ families and those injured in September’s Navy Yard shooting. “We’re all part of the DC community,” said Ryan Kim, co-owner of the SUNdeVICH food truck and brick-and-mortar restaurant and the fundraiser organizer. “We know our Navy Yard customers on a first-name basis. We’re here to show our love and support for our neighbors, friends and co-workers,” Kim said. Donations collected at Truckeroo will be given to the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region to be administered to the families. Truckeroo is 11 am to 11 pm at Half Street Fairgrounds at Half and M Street SE (Navy Yard metro).
The end of the summer DC food truck season usually brings two things: refreshed, fall menus and retirement announcements. Last week, Cheesequake announced, rather suddenly, that they have retired the truck. My follow-up email to confirm has gone unanswered, but their twitter stream has gone dormant since the announcement. Also, Fairfax County truck, District Foodies, tweeted yesterday that October will be their last month of service because a team member will be moving overseas.
Both trucks will be missed! 🙁
The last Truckeroo of 2013 will commence on Friday, Oct 4 from 11am – 11pm! A full 27 DC food trucks will pack the Fairgrounds (Half St & M St SE across from the Navy Yard metro entrance). The event has free admission and all ages (for the entire duration), with covered and uncovered seating is provided, as well as adult beverages, music and games.
