DC Sliders has launched in Fairfax, VA! Their first day was yesterday and they will be serving at Greensboro and Solutions today.  They also just got their permits approved for service in the District, so look for them there soon.

A dozen of the DMV’s favorite food trucks will head to Wheaton, MD to dish out some of the region’s best barbecue, crab cakes, cheesecakes and other tasty eats at the Curbside Cookoff food truck festival.

Curbside Cookoff is on Saturday, Sept. 28 from noon to 8:00 pm at Wheaton Triangle (Reedie Drive and Grandview Avenue), right next to the Wheaton Metro stop.

“Wheaton is a community known for its incredible food offerings from around the world,” said Doug Povich, Chairman of DC-Maryland-Virginia Food Truck Association and co-owner of Red Hook Lobster Pound-DC. “We’re very excited to partner with the Wheaton Urban District to bring our food trucks as part of the Curbside Cookoff to this great and diverse restaurant community.”

Curbside Cookoff features:

A FTF reader emailed in requesting an update to the list made in 2011 of food trucks serving gluten free offerings.  I’ll get the list started with what I’ve observed during the past year, but please comment, email or tweet me for additions!

• Basil Thyme – serves an eggplant lasagna that’s Gluten free – it usually sells-out, so get there on the early side of lunch hour
• Brown Bag – coconut curry chicken is gluten free
• Captain Cookie – has had gluten free cookies available
• Chatpat – everything is gluten free, except for the samosas
• Crepes Parfait – Crepes can be ordered gluten free
• DC Ballers – their falafel is gluten free
• District Taco – their queso dip and chips are gluten free
• Fojol Bros – All three of the fojol bros. trucks – Merlindia, Volathai, and Benethiopia – offer gluten free options
• Froyo To Go – all offerings are gluten free
• Goodies – their all natural frozen custard is gluten free
• Hungry Heart – has a gluten free pasta dish
• Meski Healthy 2 Go – dishes are gluten free when rice is ordered instead of bread
• Street Cream – all ice cream flavors are gluten free
• Sweetbites – regularly serves gluten-free cupcakes
• Top Dog – recommends a bun-less dog to make the meal gluten free

From 2011’s list:

• Carnivore BBQ – recommends BBQ and slaw, sans the bread, to make the serving gluten free
• Curbside Cupcake – has gluten free chocolate and vanilla cupcakes very frequently
• Red Hook Lobster Pound – serves a lobster salad when you request a gluten free roll
• Tasty Kabob – with chic peas over salad and lamb over salad / salad and chic peas sides

I recently spotted Chitti Chitti Grill serving in DC and today, they tweeted their serving location for the first time! ..and, hopefully not the last time 😉

Chitti Chitti Grill serves tacos and 9″ subs.  If you don’t go cross-eyed reading my somewhat-lacking-in-quality photo of the menu you will find that chicken & beef subs are $7.99 +tax ($8.79), so bring those pennies or just pay by credit card.  The beef, chicken, and shrimp tacos range in price from $3-$3.50 each, or $8-$9 for a set of 3.

This is one of those bittersweet announcements: Cupcake Blvd (permitted in Montgomery County) is retiring their food truck to focus on their new storefront in Anne Arundel County (located at 1117 State Rt. 3 N. Suite 104, Gambrills, MD).  I wish them the best of luck!  A message from the owner (Angelette):

Blvd Betty truck update: Due to a combination of the growing success of Cupcake Blvd’s storefront & the recent difficulties we have experienced with parking/police enforcement in Montgomery County [Kyle’s note: I am seeking more info about the parking enforcement issues as I was under the impression that MoCo is very food truck friendly] & limited operation hours we have decided to cease operations of the truck side of our business. The owner, Angelette Aviles, regrettably states, “if it wasn’t for the initial success of our cupcake truck & our loyal customers our storefront in Anne Arundel County would not exist. I am going to miss seeing all those familiar faces & conversations with our frequent customers whether face-to-face or via social media. We are in the process of selling our truck in hopes to expand into a 2nd location, hopefully in Montgomery County where it all started for us.”

Truckeroo’s happy hour crowd is growing on this beautiful Friday afternoon! All trucks are serving food (except for 2 which will open in 10 minutes).  Truckeroo is open until 11pm, 26 food trucks, free admission, all ages!
