Thatsalata! Closes Its Window :( @Thatsalata

One of Montgomery County’s finest food trucks, Thatsalata, is retiring. 🙁  The owners were kind enough to send along a note thanking their fans:

Very sad news to report. We have decided to end our adventure with Thatsalata! It has been an epic two year roller coaster ride that was exhilarating, satisfying, fun, hot and sweaty and at times scary and humbling. But in the end, we know there is not enough support from the few high-density locations around MoCo in addition to limited business hours for all food trucks. We will be eternally grateful for our loyal fan base, our friends and family who have supported us throughout our adventure. We are also very proud of our support from Washingtonian Magazine, and Bethesda Magazine for their praise and great reviews, as well as, the Maryland Restaurant Assoc for our best in the state nomination this past year! We also want to thank our reviewers who gave us great reviews and help spread the word on this emerging industry that desperately needs your support to survive. We are heartbroken right now, but eventually we will reflect back on this time with fond memories and will continue our friendship with our many friends and colleagues we have made along the way.

All we can say is Thanksalata for the love and support!

Something Stuffed Retires, Becomes Union Catering @UnionCatering

If you have been following Something Stuffed on Twitter or Facebook, you may have noticed that your feed is now tracking Union Catering.  The owners of Something Stuffed announced late last week that Something Stuffed was serving its final days, and that a surprise was in waiting.  Well, the Twitter & Facebook pages have been renamed to Union Catering, their new venture!  Union Catering seems to be operating out of Union Kitchen, a DC food incubator (in the business sense, not literal 😉 )

It will be exciting to hear more about what the former owners of Something Stuffed are up to and I will keep you posted.

UPDATE: I received more information from Gauri, one of Something Stuffed’s owners! The 2 owners of Something Stuffed are parting ways, but Gauri is continuing on with this new venture. (see below)

Union Kitchen Catering is a new endeavor I started with DC’s food incubator, Union Kitchen. Sabrina (our truck) will anchor food service at Union Kitchen’s outdoor beer garden / concert venue. We have hopes of eventually rolling the truck out as a mobile market to sell Union Kitchen member products. Our main focus, though, is catering management, sourcing food and beverage offerings from a variety of local purveyors, and supplying the service, alcohol, rentals and event planning services through Union Kitchen.

As for Sabrina? She will remain a staple around here – we will utilize the truck as a catering vehicle, as well as use it as a ‘pop-up’ truck of sorts that will feature rotating menus. The UKC foodtruck will make appearances special events and at The Lot @ Union Kitchen (3rd & L, NE) – be sure to follow us @UnionCatering and @UnionkitchenDC to stay tuned!
