New Truck: Thatsalata @thatsalata

Launching first in Montgomery County, MD, with additional permitting in DC and Arlington, Thatsalata brings gourmet salads, sandwiches and shakes to the DC food truck scene!  They expect to start serving in early October.  More info can be found on their page.

Far East Taco Grille Opens Today! @FarEastTG

Far East Taco Grille is opening today!  Grab their Asian tacos in the 5th & D St NW area.  Menu and other details can be found on their page.

UPDATE: I’ve received multiple reports that Far East isn’t at 6th & Indiana today, so I took the icon off the map for now.  Stay tuned for updates!

Institute For Justice Fights For Food Truck Rights @IJ

Background: In late July, the Institute for Justice published a study, named Streets of Dreams.  The study analyzed vending regulations in America’s largest 50 cities.  You can read the study and watch their informational video here.

Today: Tim Carman, from the Washington Post, writes a very nice article detailing the Institute For Justice’s mission to defend the rights of street vendors.  It is interesting to discover that the IJ is not just focusing efforts in the DC area, but in a national scope.  Read more about it.

Retired: BBQ Bandidos @BBQBandidos

I’ve received credible information that BBQ Bandidos has officially retired.  The first piece of evidence is that BBQB’s last tweet was 2 months ago on June 30.  But, the much more interesting piece of info was found with the launch of the Seoul Food food truck in Arlington (the same municipality that BBQ Bandidos was permitted in).

If you view pictures of the rear of BBQ Bandidos and Seoul Food, you’ll notice some striking similarities.  In fact, you may determine that the two trucks are identical.  That’s right, the old BBQ Bandidos truck is now the Seoul Food truck!

The circle of life continues. 🙂

Coming soon: Kraving Kabob @kravingkabob

The folks running Kraving Kabob got in touch to let fans know that they plan to start serving DC and Arlington, VA during the 1st or 2nd week of October 2011! No specific menu details yet, but they promise a concoction of authentic home made american, mediterranean and middle eastern cuisine. Check out more info on their page.

Pi On Wheels Grows Roots In Penn Quarter

If you live or work in Penn Quarter, then you probably won’t see much of the Pi On Wheels food truck anymore because the District Of Pi brick and mortar restaurant opened today!  Now, everyday starting at 11am, rain or shine, you can get your cornmeal crust pizza (and while you’re at it, a Schlafly adult beverage) from the District of Pi pizzeria located at 910 F Street NW.

District of Pi joins the small, yet growing, community of DC restaurants that have a mobile food truck component.

iPhone App Version 2.1 Update Released

As promised, the bug fix release for the Food Truck Fiesta iPhone app was released into the iTunes store yesterday!  It fixes a couple of issues with the sorting of food trucks on the List tab.  Enjoy, and thank you all for supporting the development of the app!  It can be downloaded here.

An Android version is also available!

The Stress Reliever Food Truck Serves DC! @strsrlvr

Food truck fans at L’Enfant have a new truck to dine at today, called The Stress Reliever.  Known as PG County’s first food truck, the Stress Reliever operators recently secured their DC permit and are serving in both municipalities now.

On the menu for today is: fried whiting, butterflied shrimp, Killadelphia chicken cheese steak (roasted chicken pulled), the monstrosity (meatball sub), the teridaktial (turkey burger w/turkey bacon pepper medley, onions) and the chikanza (a chicken salad sandwich). Everything comes with fries and the chicken salad sandwich comes with chips. Be sure to give their special tea mix a try, called CRANK.

AZN Eats Now Serving! @AZNeats

AZN Eats sneakily launched last Thursday at Navy Yard and is ready for prime-time today at State Department (20th and Virginia, NW).  More info (including link to the menu) can be found on their page!

Hurricane Irene Cancels Three DC Food Truck Events

I was hoping to announce three great events where DC food trucks would be serving this weekend.  Unfortunately, ALL three of them have been canceled or postponed! 🙁

They were:

    • Columbia Heights Day – El Floridano, DC Slices, Eat Wonky (plus more?)
    • DC United vs. Portland Timbers – where Seoul Food was going to have an appearance
    • Sierra Nevada and Dogfish Head Food Truck Beer Dinner – hosting beer pairings with CapMac, PORC, Stix, Hula Girl, Doug the Food Dude, Eat Wonky and Eat Wonky/Sweet Ladies Bakery

The Food Truck Beer dinner appears to have been rescheduled for October 1st.
