Here are some live pics from the event tonight at Yards Park!
From 6-9pm tonight, at Yards Park, Capital Bikeshare is hosting its 1st birthday party! There are going to be a full host of events and activities, including live music, moonbounce, paper boy contests, Belgium beer, and a number of giveaways and contests – too many to mention.
But, most importantly, there will be several of DC’s finest food trucks in attendance: Red Hook Lobster Pound, Eat Wonky, Rolling Ficelle, Carnivore BBQ, Dippin’ Dots and Doug The Food Dude! Twitter handles: @LobstertruckDC @eatwonky @TheFicelle @carnbbq @dippindotsDC @Dougthefooddude
Enjoy!
Yards Park is located on the waterfront near National’s baseball park at 3rd & Water St SE near the Navy Yard Metro.
Great news! The Corned Beef King launches today (9/22) in Montgomery County. They will be at the usual spot on Fishers Lane in Rockville, MD today serving their slow cooked corned beef, pastrami Reubens and veggie Reubens.
Saturday (noon-7pm), several DC food trucks will be serving at the H Street Festival between 800-1300 H St NE (AKA the Atlas District). Food trucks that have announced that they will be attending are: BBQ Bus, Eat Wonky, El Floridano, Fojol Bros, Pleasant Pops and Red Hook Lobster Pound.
The Food Network hosted an online voting contest for the most popular food truck in the nation. The winning truck would receive a cash prize and a chance to appear on season 3 of The Great Food Truck Race TV show.
That all sounds great, but they missed one critical thing. When you went to select the state where your favorite food truck was located, Washington DC was missing. Of course, I immediately notified the Food Network of this oversight to no avail. Though, later that day, Eat Street (a Food Network property) coincidentally tweeted to ask me my opinion in DC’s most camera-ready food trucks. And, Eat Street was in DC this week filming some trucks, so maybe my plea didn’t fall on deaf ears.
In spite of all of this drama, Basil Thyme was able to place in the top 100 by registering his truck profile in Maryland. Congrats! The winner will be announced on Sept 25.
A new cupcake truck is coming to the District this fall, called Cupcake Joy! More info + menu can be found on their page.
Just a few weeks ago, Xavier (@xatizol) and I were discussing a Frankenstein sandwich that looked like the love child of @bigcheesetruck, @CapMacDC and @bbqbusdc (if that’s even possible!).
Well, today (Sept 14th), Eat Wonky makes that idea a reality by offering a mash-up at L’Enfant: Wonky Fries w/ El Floridano pulled pork on top!
I hear that there are a few more mash-ups to come soon and will keep you posted. 🙂
Bada Bing Cheesesteaks & Spiedies got in touch with me to inform fans that they are currently regrouping and planning to relaunch in Arlington in a few weeks. The larger plan is that their truck will soon meet all of the qualifications for DC permitting, so we may be enjoying spiedies in the District in a few months!
Willie’s Po’Boy opened in Arlington, VA today. They were at Ballston and served for just a bit over 1 hour. Tune into the Food Truck Fiesta map tomorrow for their next location. 🙂
On Wednesday of this week, Smith Meadows made their first appearance of the year in Rosslyn, VA! They serve grass-fed meats and home-cooked foods. Smith Meadows has expanded their operation from last year when they just served at the Arlington Courthouse Markets. Expect to see them in Arlington and Takoma Park. More info can be found on their page!
