Hi, DC food truck fans! I just wanted to let you know about a new feature I implemented for Food Truck Fiesta that I’m calling the Advanced Bookmark.
Advanced Bookmark
You are probably accustomed to typing in or bookmarking http://foodtruckfiesta.com to get to Food Truck Fiesta to view the food truck map. I now made that a bit easier for those of you who love the large map and don’t want to click the link every time you visit Food Truck Fiesta. So, here’s an example of the new feature:
http://foodtruckfiesta.com/#farragut
As you can see, it will take you to Food Truck Fiesta, open up the large map and zoom in on Farragut, without having to click a thing! You can change farragut to any location that is listed in the large map’s drop down box (located at the bottom of the map). It’s a search string, so you don’t have to enter in a complete location, you could just use navy if you wanted to zoom in on Navy Yard.
Reporting Fixed
There was a bug in the report this pin location as incorrect feature on the map that has been corrected. So, please feel free to report any location corrections again!
Thanks again for all of your support and please keep your comments and suggestions coming! 🙂
We all know that DC food trucks are still operating under the 30 year old ice cream truck regulations. And, we all know that those regulations need to be updated. The good news is that there is actually a set of new, unpublished DC food truck regulations sitting on Mayor Vincent Gray’s desk right now!
The bad news? The unpublished regulations have been sitting on Mayor Gray’s desk for over three months. While the regulations languish, the Restaurant Association and other anti-food truck groups are lobbying the Mayor to make food trucks illegal.
So, what we need to do is to get Mayor Gray to release those regulations to the public so that the citizens of this city can comment publicly and start the process to make DC a friendly city for food trucks.
To that end, I’ve setup a Change.org petition to ask Mayor Gray to act to protect food trucks. Will you sign it? 🙂
Here is the summary of the new menu, which will launch today on Sauca’s Magellan truck at L’Enfant:
Lamb Dhabe Da – SubContinent
Ropa Vieja – Latin America
Lemongrass Basil Fish – Asia
Beef Stroganoff – Europe
Maghreb Chicken – MediAll of the above served on Jasmine Rice
Falafel – vegetarian Medi
Saucalito (14th & K today) will feature the Ropa Vieja and Lamb Dhabe Da.
I’ll post more details of the new menu on the Sauca page!
Plans for a new food truck, named Mighty Dog And Acai, are in the works! The menu will consist of gourmet hot dogs and Acai berry shakes. No formal launch date has been announced, but they will be permitted in DC and Montgomery County. More info is available on their page.
I just received a report (about 7pm) that the $1 entrance fee/donation is now optional.
UPDATE: The DC Food Truck Association put out a statement regarding the surprise cover charge.
A couple of updates for Truckeroo fans this evening!
Navy Yard metro closes at 10pm
WMATA is closing the Navy Yard metro station at 10pm, and since most of us get to and from Truckeroo via Metro, many food trucks may be closing up at that time.
$1 Venue Entry Fee
What was advertised as a “suggested donation” turned into a required $1 entry fee and came as a shock to me and every Truckeroo fan at the entrance. I confirmed that the required fee was instituted by the venue operator (Georgetown Events), not by the DC Food Truck Association. According to the flyer, the money will be donated to Greenleaf Recreation Center in Southwest DC.
I also received reports of people being denied entry because they did not have single dollar bills and the venue would not make change from larger bills.
You can read more user-contributed comments on my earlier post.
Photo: Free Admission sign is now covered up.

Here are a few photos of DC food trucks in their Halloween costumes!
Just a heads-up to Truckeroo goers: the $1 donation is looking like it’s mandatory at the entrance of Das Bullpen. The donation goes to the Greenleaf Recreation Center in Southwest DC. Note: Georgetown Events (the venue operator), not the DC Food Truck Association, is requiring the $1 donation “entry fee.”
UPDATE: The DC Food Truck Association put out a statement regarding the surprise cover charge.
