Alexandria Moves to Lift Food Truck Ban
Public Hearing to be Held on Saturday
Alexandria, Va. – A proposal to lift Alexandria’s near-total ban on food trucks will be considered by City Council on Saturday.
“This proposal gives Alexandria residents and workers more choices at lunchtime and more competition for their dollars,” said Che Ruddell-Tabisola, Executive Director of the DMV Food Truck Association. “Everybody should support that.
“The proposal lifts Alexandria’s near-total ban on food trucks and allows them to serve residents and workers on public streets and private property,” Ruddell-Tabisola said. “We’re asking City Council to pass the complete proposal without delay.”
Currently food trucks are almost totally illegal in Alexandria – including on private property. The only locations where food trucks are allowed are at construction sites and at special events with a permit.
The new food truck law would allow food trucks to serve Alexandria residents and workers on public streets and private property and puts in place numerous rules and regulations for how food trucks operate, including prohibiting food trucks from vending in residential areas, and creates additional limitations on the number food trucks in city-identified restricted zones.
The proposed food truck law also ensures proper licensing, permitting, and enforcement of violations.

The hearing is scheduled to begin at 9:30 am, in the Council Chamber of City Hall at 301 King Street.
