DC Food Trucks – Who’s Hiring In 2013? I’m Starting A List :-)

An avid Stella’s Popkern fan emailed in to point out that Stella’s is out of commission until a new chef and/or help can be hired, and this fan needs her FIX! 🙂  TaKorean also announced today that they are hiring FT and PT positions!  I’ll update this list as more DC food truck job openings are announced.

Happy New Year!

Many DC food trucks have been off the road for the last week and a half, but they’re all coming back online!  So, what happens when a food truck operator and chef doesn’t serve for a few days in a row?  They dream up new menu items!  Keep an eye out for some changes in the menus of your favorite food trucks. 🙂

DCFTA Delivers Copies Of The “Missing” 1000+ Comments To DCRA

The City Paper has a nice article describing how owners of DC Slices and Goodie’s Frozen Custard and Treats printed out copies of the 1,000+ pro-food truck comments that went missing during the last public comment period and hand-delivered them to DCRA.  As was noted by DC food truck photographer on FTF last Sunday, their emailed comments were bounced back after being submitted.

DCRA has opened another round of public commenting that will close on Dec 28.  So, if you want to be doubly sure that your comments make it through, please use any of the following methods:

  • At www.RulesThatWork.org
  • By e-mail to DCVendingRegs@dc.gov
  • By letter to Mr. Helder Gil, Legislative Affairs Specialist, Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, 1100 Fourth Street, SW, Room 5164, Washington, D.C. 20024
Institute for Justice (IJ) Gets Involved In Arlington Food Truck Rights Challenge

ARLnow reported yesterday that the Institute for Justice (IJ) is now getting involved in a legal battle to help Arlington’s food truck operate normally.  Arlington’s new stepped-up anti-food truck enforcement states that if trucks don’t move every hour, they face being charged with a class 1 misdemeanor (i.e. the same as a DUI).  Even the Arlington county police sound a bit peeved at having to babysit food trucks: they have to watch trucks for hours to make sure they move on time.  And, then when the trucks move, police have to determine if the truck moved far enough.

Thanks to David for the tip!

DCRA To Reopen Vending Regulations Comment Period

Remember the comments that we wrote in November to support DC food trucks to, in part, help get rid of the 10-foot unobstructed sidewalk rule that would eliminate food trucks at 8 of the 10 most popular locations?

Apparently, not all of those comments made it through (possibly, up to 1,000 comments) to DCRA and/or got posted to the public comment record.  You can view the public comments here to see if yours made it through.  DCRA is not taking any chances, though, and has reopened the public comment period starting today, through December 28.  Tim Carman from the Washington Post has some more details and quotes regarding the drama.

Comments can be submitted:

  • At www.RulesThatWork.org
  • By e-mail to DCVendingRegs@dc.gov
  • By letter to Mr. Helder Gil, Legislative Affairs Specialist, Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, 1100 Fourth Street, SW, Room 5164, Washington, D.C. 20024
